Bariatric Surgery Program Recertified at MountainView Regional Medical Center
2/13/2017
MountainView Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce our bariatric surgery program has been recertified by The Joint Commission, the nation’s premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body. This Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of distinction that reflects our commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. Bariatric surgery enables patients to lose and maintain a significant amount of weight thus reducing risk of potentially life-threatening diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Joint Commission certification is a rigorous process that involves on-site evaluations to ensure our program meets or exceeds national best practices. We were first certified in 2013, recertified in 2014, and recertified a second time in November 2016. MountainView is the only hospital in New Mexico to maintain dual bariatric certifications; we are also certified by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
“We know that bariatric surgery is life-changing for people and we are proud that our program has been recognized as one of superior caliber,” said Denten Park, CEO. “This certification is evidence that we strive to provide the highest standards of health care excellence to our community.”
The Joint Commission and The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program guidelines require bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program in addition to surgery, which improves their long-term success. MountainView specializes in LAP-BAND®, gastric bypass, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, and offers free educational seminars to answer questions about the procedures. Karina McArthur, MD, Melissa Gomez, MD, and Jimmie Hauser, CNP, and staff members at MountainView Weight Loss Center, guide patients through the entire process, from the initial consultation to post-operative care.
