MountainView Breaks Ground on NM's First Freestanding Emergency Room
2/24/2017
Las Cruces, NM – February 20, 2017 – MountainView Regional Medical Center is breaking ground on New Mexico’s first freestanding emergency department. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 1 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 2811 N. Main Street.
“Demand for emergency services in Las Cruces continues to increase, and MountainView Emergency Center at Main will provide an additional access point for care to people living on the northeast side of Las Cruces,” said Denten Park, Chief Executive Officer at MountainView Regional Medical Center. “We’re pleased to be able to continue to grow to serve our community.”
MountainView Emergency Center at Main will be equipped to treat patients with illnesses and injuries that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities offer. The free-standing emergency department will have 10 private patient rooms with radiology and lab services on site. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Many emergent conditions can be effectively managed at freestanding emergency departments without the need for transfer to a traditional hospital setting.
“Our physician team is excited to be a part of New Mexico’s first freestanding emergency department,” said Michael Borunda, MD, medical director for the emergency department at MountainView. “We’re committed to providing excellent care at both locations.”
MountainView Regional Medical Center is investing more than $10 million in the new facility. Nearly 30 new local jobs will be created to serve patients at the new center, including registered nurses, lab, imaging, admitting and environmental services staff.
This is the most recent investment MountainView has made to improve emergency services in Dona Ana county. In July 2016, the hospital completed a $5 million expansion and renovation of its main campus emergency department, expanding from 10 beds to 22 beds.
