2/2/2026
MountainView Regional Medical Center has appointed Patrick Shannon as the hospital’s new chief executive officer.
Shannon assumed the role of CEO at Mountainview on Jan. 26, 2026. With more than 30 years of healthcare operations and management experience, Shannon aims to use this opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of southern New Mexico.
“Mountainview is more than a hospital; it is a trusted cornerstone of care for families across Las Cruces and surrounding areas,” Shannon said. “I am looking forward to building strong relationships – within the hospital walls and throughout the community. I look forward to supporting our caregivers, growing our services, and engaging with community leaders and residents to understand their needs.”
Shannon moved to Las Cruces from Huntsville, Texas, where he served as CEO of Huntsville Memorial Hospital for nearly five years. Prior to that, he served as the chief operating officer for Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, a 476-bed hospital, located in Beaumont, Texas. He was responsible for the operational management and oversight of multiple departments within Baptist Hospital’s main campus, behavioral health facility, regional cancer center and Baptist campus in Orange, Texas.
Shannon also served as the COO for Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner, in Kenner, Louisiana, as well as vice president of surgical services for Ochsner's flagship hospital at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Additionally, he worked for HCA’s Gulf South and Central-West (El Paso, Texas) Divisions.
As CEO of MountainView, Shannon said his primary goal is to ensure Mountainview consistently delivers safe, quality, and compassionate care to patients.
“I am committed to supporting our team members by fostering a culture where people feel valued, heard and empowered to do their best work,” he said. “By strengthening teamwork, accountability and communication, I hope to work with our leaders to build an environment where excellence in care and employee engagement go hand in hand.”
Joe Bullock, chairman for MountainView’s board of trustees, said he is confident in Shannon’s ability to lead MountainView forward.
“MountainView did an extensive search to find the right man to take over the helm,” Bullock said. “Patrick Shannon checked all the boxes for what we were looking for. He will bring MountainView to an even higher level. He’ll be a great asset to our hospital and community.”
Shannon is a graduate of Louisiana State University and holds a Master of Business Administration from Northeast Louisiana University, as well as a Master of Science in health services administration from the University of St. Francis. Shannon is a combat veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom II and retired from the U.S Army Reserves holding the rank of Colonel. Additionally, he is a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
