MountainView Regional Medical Center First in Southern New Mexico to Offer Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker

LAS CRUCES, NM — MountainView Regional Medical Center continues to lead the way in delivering advanced cardiac care with the successful implant of the region’s first dual chamber leadless pacemaker, bringing more heart care options closer to home. Dr. Craig Cannon, cardiologist and member of the medical staff of MountainView Regional Medical Center, and the hospital cath lab team performed the implant procedure.
The dual chamber leadless pacemaker treats patients with slow or irregular heart rhythms by synchronizing pacing in both the upper and lower chambers of the heart — without the need for traditional leads or a surgical pocket in the chest.
The pacemaker is implanted using a minimally invasive procedure through a vein in the groin. Its leadless, wireless design helps reduce the risk of infection and eliminate complications related to leads, often with faster recovery and greater comfort.
“It’s exciting to bring this new technology to our patients right here in Las Cruces and across Southern New Mexico,” said Dr. Cannon. “The purpose is the same as all pacemakers, to keep the heart from going too slowly. But the dual chamber leadless pacemaker system can be a more effective solution for some patients, improving their quality of life and potentially reducing some of the risks associated with traditional pacemakers.”
The milestone reflects MountainView Regional Medical Center’s commitment to providing quality care close to home. By investing in medical advancements, the hospital continues to expand access to specialty care for patients across Doña Ana County.
“Our goal is to help patients in our region receive specialized quality care without traveling far,” said MountainView Regional Medical Center CEO Matthew Conrad. “This is just one more way we are advancing heart care in our community.”
